Backpacking Safety Tips While Hiking The Trails
July 17, 2023 - Most of the time backpackers are able to stay safe while doing their thing, but occassionally something goes wrong that is nice if you have prepared for it in advance.
Here are some travel safety tips to know before you head out on your next backpacking adventure:
- Wear a Helmet
- If your adventure takes you to countries with high crime rates then be sure and hide your cash. Have some hidden sewn in pockets and spread your cash into different places.
- Know your exit in advance. There may be a sudden weather change, or other danger that requires a quick retreat.
- Don't go swimming when you have had too much to drink.
- Always pack a first aid kit.
- Check in with friends or family on a frequent basis.
- Research the area you are going too well before you leave for your trip.
- If you are hiking in a cold climate then take along some battery heated clothing, like a heated vest, heated gloves and heated socks.
- Make sure you have insurance coverage for accidents that might happen while in another state or country.
- Make sure you have a head lamp.
- If you get lost hiking and have no cell service then stop, sit and wait. If you don't check in then someone will find you or cross your path eventually.
- Watch for wild animals and respect their space in order to avoid an attack; especially with moma bears.
