August 1, 2023 - If your refrigerator is without power for only a few hours then all your food will survive. Some people live where they have very infrequent long periods of power outages. However, others live in areas where it is not uncommon for their utility power to be off for days at a time, especially after severe storms.

If you have no alternative power source for your fridge then you will not only waste a lot of money on food, you won't have these food items to eat while you are without power and you will have a complete mess to clean up after eveything thaws. Then you have to go shopping and restock all that food. I have a small 2000 watt generator that has saved my food in my frig many a time throughout the years. Spring storms cause a power outage in our area just about every year and we are usually without power for days. Don't forget to keep some gasoline on hand and some long extension cords because your generator needs to be outside for proper ventilation. If you do not have any power source available for your refrigerator it is best to not open the refrigerator door in order to keep your food items cool as long as possible.

It is not smart to wait until disaster strikes and then try to go out and find a generator to buy. Roads may be blocked or impassable due to downed trees, power lines, snow and ice or there may be such a run on generators at the local stores that you can't even find one.

Not only do you need to have a small generator on hand for your refrigerator you need to have an adequate supply of fuel on hand also for the generator. At least, enough to last you for several days.
