Hard Ground Tent Pegs

August 25, 2023 - If you are pitching your tent where the ground is really hard then use these hard ground tent pegs to make the job easier and make sure your camping tent is secure when high winds come blowing. I have used some of these tent pegs to also anchor a fair sized tree that is leaning due to high winds. They work great for those projects also. Others have used these heavy duty pegs to secure guy lines for things like large antennas.

Some of these stakes are metal and some are made of a high strength plastic. Many people like the spiral type stakes because they feel that once in the ground no amount of tugging is going to easily pull them out. However, some customers report that the plastic pegs break easier than metal ones.

Tent stakes come in different lengths. You might choose 24 inch stakes, anchors for a sandy soil condition or if the ground is harder you may opt for a shorter 12 inch steel stake. Some pegs come in colors, which makes them easier to see so that you don't trip over them and get hurt. Other tent pegs are illuminated which makes it easier to see them at night.

When you are going to be pounding those tent pegs into hard ground you want a heavy duty stake but if you are backpacking then you also want to consider the weight of the stakes, so finding the right combination is important. Depending on your mode of travel you may be more interested in packed size than weight.

Place a set of these tent pegs that fit for you, in your car or backpack and you will always be prepared for winds and storms that might pop up while you and your family are somewhere enjoying your outdoor adventure.

Even With Good Tent Stakes You Still Are Having Trouble Getting Them Into The Rocky Ground

Try putting the guyline around the middle of the stake then lay the stake sideways on the ground, perpendicular to the guyline and put one or two large rocks on top of / in front of the stake.

Another option is to carry 2 titanium nail stakes with you to use to make starter holes for your hard ground tent stakes.

If the ground is just hard and not rocky then you can pour a bottle of water on the ground where the stake is going, let it soak in a minute or two and then it will be easier to pound your peg into the dirt. Consider the temperature, you don't want to put so much water that the ground freezes around your stake making it harder to pull out the next morning.
