Wayne 1/2 HP Cast Iron Submersible Sump Pump with Vertical Float Switch
If you have a typical pit that is 18 inches in diameter then every inch of water inside the pit amounts to approximately 1 gallon.
This rugged, submersible CDU800 1/2 HP submersible sump pump that has a cast iron base with metal consturction pumps up to 4200 GPH at 0 feet.
Know your pit. Measure the number of gallons coming into your sump pit for 1 minute. Assuming your pit is 18 inches in diameter then multiply those gallons x 60 minutes x 1.5 to get the number of gallons per hour that you need to keep pumped from your pit to keep your basement or crawl space dry.
You might want to measure at different times, especially during extremely wet conditions when the ground is very saturated.

Don't Let Your Sump Pump Discharge Line Freeze...
July 31, 2023 - Maintaining your sump pump is of upmost importance as part of your home maintenance. Making sure your discharge line does not freeze in the winter months should be of upmost priority.
You will want to check all connection points to make sure there is no leakage. If there is a leak this has the potential of freezing. A leak may not be noticable during warmer months unless you see standing water around the discharge line. During the colder months as temperatures drop to the freezing point the discharge line could freeze and damage your sump pump.
If the discharge line is visible on the outside of your home always make sure that water is flowing out of the pipe when the sump pump is running. If the pump is running and not lowering the water level in the basin this may indicate a frozen discharge line. If the discharge line is below grade freezing may occur at the frost line.
Another point to be aware of is that if the discharge line drains to the ground make sure there ia sloping grad that takes the water away from your home's foundation. Any water sitting close to your foundation may filter back and run into the drain line to your sump pump causing a repetitive pump cycle and shorten the life of your sump pump.
